Its the important special case of intra-application links that requires relative addressing

The problem being addressed is this: An application is made up of many databases and brings them together in one or more composite perspectives. Given that this application needs to have multiple instances how can the components be referred to in a way that is instance independent. Relative URLs provide an utterly simple and natural solution that everyone understands and is familiar with.

What you are suggesting as an alternative is something like this:

com.ibm.notes.ComputedNotesURL = "Notes://"+@Subset(@DbName ; 1) +"/"+@If(@Contains(@Subset(@DbName ; -1) ; "\\") ; @LeftBack(@Subset(@DbName ; -1) ; "\\") + "\\" ; "") +"db.nsf/viewname"

For one thing that seems to me to fall into the category of strange and ridiculous when compared to the obvious solution of a relative URL, and for another does it even work? When this is evaluated @DbName needs to refer to the database from which the composite application XML was loaded, but will it?
